company
Aladino Baby resumed its shoe production business in 1962 led by its then owner, Andrea Pelli. We say “resumed” production because the actual date of foundation of this company, which had been handed down from father to son since its inception, dates back to 1800 in a small craftsman’s workshop that produced and sold shoes “tailor-made” by the original founder, great grandfather Aladino Pelli.
The surname Pelli most likely refers to the ancient family trade of leather working.
We used the term “resumed” because “tailor-made” production continued ceaselessly until 1943 when the shoe making workshop was destroyed by the bombing of the Pontassieve bridges.
After reconstruction, the business resumed with the opening of a retail store of mass-produced shoes, abandoning small-scale production which had become obsolete due to the changing times.
In 1962, Fulvio Pelli encouraged his first-born son Andrea to start up small-scale production of leather infant shoes to sell in shoes stores as an alternative to wool or fabric shoes that were being sold in clothing stores and haberdasheries.
In the 1970s, the product offer was expanded further with infant’s shoes in fabric. Far from the usual slippers, these were real shoes with sole and insole in natural leather, for utmost comfort and hygiene of the foot.
